For Christmas 1971, the family drove from Saint Louis to Daytona Beach. Here Erika races with the boys. She loved the beach, and could walk it for hours. But she hated walking in town.

This trip was to see her Uncle Fred, her mother's younger brother, and the jeweler who inspired Erika and eventually Dan.

In the summer of 1971, we drove up to Michigan to meet her Aunt Clara, another of her mother's siblings.
