Ken's house
The cozy guest quarters of Casa Chandler in a historically protected housing project in Green Belt Maryland. Karen still snoozes as host cat Ivan Vorcatril \(http://www.goodreads.com/series/98254-vorkosigan-saga-chronological\) patrols. I noticed several of his nightly patrols across my midriff in the night.

Hours later, we'd packed up the bed and were catching up on news and, let's face it, FaceBook. I had in mind some commentary about the relative size of our tools, but decided not to go there. Almost.

Finally getting back on the road, Karen says goodbye to Ken. I've known Ken since the early 1980's; we went to the same college.

Driving
Ken had warned us to look out for the "Emerald City" on the D.C. Beltway. I think I see it ahead through the drizzle.

The Emerald City is but the local Mormon Temple, with its trademark pole-sitting bugle boy.Actually, from our tour in Salt Lake in 2010, we learned that the steeple topper is the angel Moroni \(http://danklarmann.com/travels/?PicNum=IMG_2850&Trip=2010SeptTrip\).

It is tempting to call this modern timber-framed farm house a chalet.

Peering down from the catwalk at Karen and Jon, once a college housemate. Not as vertiginous a view as some of the others I have taken this trip. But still fun.

David, Jonathan, and Karen prepare garden fresh and/or local produce for dinner. The dog and I just watch hopefully.

When we visited here before (2005: D.C. Day 2 \(http://danklarmann.com/travels/travel.cgi?Date=20050710&Trip=2005JulyTrip\)), I asked David why this cat here was named Richard Parker. He loaned me a book. On this trip, 8 years later, I returned it.Thus I began and ended this day with pictures of cats. Not a theme, just an observation.
