07/13/05: Saratoga Springs up to Long Lake, NY.
We checked out of the Springs Motel in Saratoga Springs and drove into town. We had brunch at "Ravenous", a creperie. I could barely taste anything with my worsening cold.
We did not visit the racetrack where Seabiscuit was filmed.
We stopped at a micro brewery that was closed for lunch, but we got in and picked up a sampler.

Then we drove northward into the Adirondacks. We stopped at a buffalo farm for some jerky, at the visitors center to see the exhibits and get the lay of the region.
A stop for Buffalo Jerky on NY 74 west of I-87 in the Adirondacks. There are buffalo out there, but not in frame, darn it!

We decided to stay in Long Lake. We checked out the 1890's Long Lake Inn, and decided to stay at a 1950's style Motor Lodge called the Shamrock Motel and Cottages. www.shamrockmotellonglake.com . It has been owned since 1965 hy a Canuck from Montreal. He's a hoot: quick witted and full of blarney. Retiring next year.
The motel reminds me of the strip motel we'd stay in Summers in the 1960's at Bull Shoals Lake. Except that here, the lawn down toward the lake was well maintained, there were horseshoe pits, a shuffleboard court, and a badminton net. The short walk down to the tiny beach was nice.
We had dinner at the Adirondack Blarney Stone and we watched the sunset from the beach.
