Prev: Day 8: A short drive from Maryland to Virginia
Next: Day 10: Sky Meadows State Park and Front Royal on a rainy Saturday
10/11/13: Day 9: Staying put for a day, and dancing not-in Glen Echo
Again, a day briefly told in captions.
Jonathan prepares for an unusual day at the office by preparing some fresh salsa. Richard Parker makes sure our ankles don't get lonely.

Karen and the dog are negotiating who gets to click on what. The day was mostly spent just resting and hanging out. We'd decided to extend our stay to catch the Glen Echo contradance, which is going on even though the National Park is closed and their official website on a park service server is offline. Social networking to the rescue!

So David brought us to a Greek Pizza place called the Aroma House \(http://www.aromahousepizza.com/\) where he and Jonathan spent many a meal while their kitchen was under construction.

The pizza was good, and there was a gas station next door. This is the first gas pump with video ads that I'd ever seen. We are a bit behind the curve in the middle. Not necessarily a bad thing.

So the Glen Echo dance group (FridayNightDance.org \(http://fridaynightdance.org/\) found a gym in Betheda, MD willing to take their money this evening. See David walk into his first contradance ever.

Given the rainy night, the broken communications, and famous D.C. area traffic, they had a decent turn out. This was fairly early. The crowd got to four full lines, or five slightly shorter ones. I had a good time dancing, so didn't take that many pictures.

In Saint Louis, we have a band called the Wall of Sound. Essentially that is a Folk School \(http://folkschoolstl.org/\) graduation performance. For Glen Echo, they have that many musicians, of professional caliber, once a month. Note the xylophone, piano, flute, 12-string, etc.

And here is David, gamely getting through the choreographies and picking up the moves. He claimed later that he had a good time. Yay.

Karen drove us home on the long, shiny back roads, because I was tired. I sat in back in deference to David's long legs. It is only an hour from their farm in Virginia to where we danced near the D.C. border of Maryland.
