Another view from the deck, the marina and some exposed geology. The marina is still empty because the ice only finally broke on May 2nd. Sailing is a major summer recreation here.
They use a weighted barrel on the ice as an indicator, and there is lively betting on when it falls through. The exact minute of this barrel tipping is the official time of the ice break-up. The proceeds of the wager (after winnings are paid) go to a scholarship fund.
