A posed shot of Martin Israel, Bob Binns, Joe Klarmann and John Epstein looking at one of the fiber-optic cosmic ray detector units designed by them. The green table they are fingering is a blanket of scintillating polymer optical fibers that send flashes of light to video cameras when a cosmic ray passes through it. This replaced the earlier technology of Cherenkov radiation counters.
