05/16/06: Day 3: A Day in Dillon, CO

Shortness of breath is to be expected for a sea-level primate such as myself. I was up at 6:30 and started taking pictures off the icy-cold deck of Bill and Kim's lakeside home. We had a nice brunch as the temperature outside rose. We went for a walk up a foothill. We spent time at his parent's house and played with the llamas.
Most of this day is told by the pictures.

Another view from the deck, the marina and some exposed geology. The marina is still empty because the ice only finally broke on May 2nd. Sailing is a major summer recreation here.They use a weighted barrel on the ice as an indicator, and there is lively betting on when it falls through. The exact minute of this barrel tipping is the official time of the ice break-up. The proceeds of the wager (after winnings are paid) go to a scholarship fund.

Bill's parents (next door) have a house full of of arts, crafts, and geological, um, stuff. We spent a dizzying hour touring the eclectic collection. They could benefit for a visit by a curator for much of their museum-grade clutter.
